Per mai tai, add the juice of one fresh lime with 2 oz of gold rum, 1/2 oz orgeat (you can get this as almond syrup at your local coffee shop), 1/2, 1/2 oz orange curacao, 1/2 oz sugar syrup (or to taste... a mai-tai should not be two sweet, but you do want to counterbalance the acid tartness of the lime), shake well, place half the lime shell in a highball glass (or tiki mug), fill glass with crushed ice, add mai tai and garnish with a sprig of mint. This recipe is fairly close to Trader Vic's original. |
