Sweet (red) Vermouth not dry!
In the film, the bartender clearly poured red (sweet) vermouth into the mixing glass! And if you think about it, a cocktail like this (with bitters and fruit) would only use sweet vermouth! I also think that a good Balsamic vinegar would probably taste a lot better! (I do realize that in 1963 most folks in the US would not even know what that was, but the vinegar in the cruet in the movie was red anyway!) And did you notice that the recipe called for "more scotch" even though in the earlier part of the ingredients dictated, scotch was not mentioned!
